Engineer Technician - Rigger

Overview:

Do you want to be part of U.S. Navy Research and Development offshore on research vessels and ashore in fabrication and test lab facilities? Operate marine ROVs?  Support underwater electromagnetic testing? TMG has an exciting opportunity for a full time Rigger (Mechanical Technician) to support the Navy in Ft. Lauderdale, FL at NAVSEA’s South Florida Ocean Measurement RDT&E facility. The Rigger/Mechanical Technician supports underwater test equipment construction and maintenance, associated underwater and shore side assets, marine vehicles, small craft, equipment maintenance and operations.

LOCATION: Fort Lauderdale (Dania Beach), FL
EXPERIENCE LEVEL: 1 year of similar work-related experience in a yacht company, Marina, or waterfront environment.  Machine shop industrial skills a plus.  Any residential, commercial or marine A/C, electrical, or small craft maintenance experience is a plus.  USCG 6-pak captain’s license is a plus, or we can assist getting licensed.
Must be fit and have ability to work in technical spaces on board vessels.
We are looking for self-motivated candidates who have the drive and motivation to complete single or multiple projects simultaneously.
Troubleshooting skills or other technical aptitude is a plus.  Hands on is a must.

EDUCATION:  High school/vocational school diploma or GED certificate.

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Marine Rigger with a background in the crane, rigging, or marine industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for safely and efficiently setting up and dismantling dockside rigging equipment, ensuring the proper placement and securement of heavy equipment and materials for transportation and lifting operations. The Rigger will collaborate closely with our team of professionals to execute projects according to client specifications and industry best practices.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Perform rigging activities for lifting and transporting heavy equipment, machinery, and materials using cranes, hoists, and other lifting equipment.
  • Set up and dismantle rigging equipment, including slings, chains, cables, and hooks, according to project requirements and safety standards.
  • Ensure proper placement and securement of loads to prevent shifting or damage during transportation and lifting operations.
  • Collaborate with crane operators, truck drivers, and other team members to coordinate rigging activities and ensure safe and efficient project.
  • Inspect rigging equipment and hardware for signs of wear, damage, or defects, and report any issues to the appropriate personnel. execution.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies while performing rigging activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of activities, equipment inspections, and safety documentation.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience (1-3 years) as a Rigger in the crane, rigging, and transport industry.
  • NCCER Certification preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of rigging techniques, equipment, and hardware used in lifting and transportation operations.
  • Familiarity with crane operations, load charts, and rigging calculations.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and project specifications.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to safety at all times.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and overtime as required by project demands.
  • Should be willing to travel out of state on occasion as required by project demands.
  • Must pass fit for duty assessment, drug test, and background check.

Qualifications

  • Solid experience in marine construction labor work
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools
  • Familiarity with blueprints and construction site operations
  • Ability to work on rough carpentry and fiberglass construction
  • Valid driver's license
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety regulations

Required:  Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.

Desired:  Previous experience of working dockside, on seagoing vessels, or other marine experience.  Experience maintaining small motors or hydraulic pumps.

EXPERIENCE LEVEL: Minimum of 1year of experience as a Rigger.

CERTIFICATIONS AND TOOLS: NCCER preferred but not required.

SECURITY CLEARANCE: Must be US citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance or favorable adjudication of a national security background investigation. Current successful background investigation completion is a plus.

TRAVEL: Occasional travel possible.
