Overview: Do you want to be part of U.S. Navy Research and Development team working offshore on research vessels and ashore in fabrication and test facilities? TMG has an exciting opportunity for a full time Machinist/Fabricator to support the Navy in Fort Lauderdale, FL at NAVSEA’s South Florida Ocean Measurement Research, Development, Testing, & Evaluation facility. The Fabricator/Machinist supports underwater test equipment construction and maintenance, underwater and shore assets, marine vehicles, small watercraft, equipment maintenance and operations. Preventative and environmental corrosion control and maintenance is a must. LOCATION: Fort Lauderdale (Dania Beach), FL EXPERIENCE LEVEL: We are looking for a skilled machinist with a passion for precision to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience and will be responsible for setting up and running various machines and equipment, eliminate defects in the set-up and operation of equipment while producing parts. You must be able to read and interpret part drawings and will operate a 3-axis CNC mill, CNC lathe, manual mills and lathes, drill press, grinders, and other specialized equipment. Additionally, you will perform finish work and marking of piece parts in various stages of production. This role requires the ability to utilize CAD to design fixtures and create parts with accurate geometry, as well as use CAM software to create G-code to machine parts. Must have the ability to work on board vessels of various sizes. We are looking for self-motivated candidates who have the drive and motivation to complete multiple projects simultaneously. Skilled hands, workmanship, and attention to detail is a must. Prior experience on boats, ships, or offshore structures is preferred. EDUCATION: High school/vocational school diploma or GED certificate. CERTIFICATIONS AND TOOLS: NCCER preferred but not required. TRAVEL: Occasional Travel Self-motivated fabricator to assist government employees to accomplish inspections, repairs, modifications, installations, troubleshooting, and build basic underwater structures.
Machine operations and set up of fixtures and tools
Proficiency with SolidWorks
Experience reading, interpreting and following blueprints.
Ability to use and read all measurement tools, gauges, calipers, etc.
Ability to hold close tolerances += .001
Knowledge of shop mathematics and geometric dimensions and tolerances.
Ability to recognize early signs of tool wear and failure
Utilize CAD and CAM software to create G and M code for 3-axis mill
Ability to read, write, and understand English.
Performs basic repairs and maintenance with minimum instruction
Experience or training demonstrating very basic working knowledge of the properties and characteristics of a number of composite and plastic bonding agents, such as fiberglass, Kevlar, PVC, graphite, film adhesive, silicones, epoxies, etc;
knowledge of health hazards associated with maintenance as well as proper mitigation procedures i.e. PPE, decontamination, and housekeeping
a working knowledge of welding – Fabricating to assemble, install and repair metal products and equipment. Working knowledge of TIG welding and other types of welding
Determine project requirements, including scope, assembly sequences, and required methods and materials, according to blueprints, drawings and written or verbal instructions.
Lays out, measures and marks dimensions and reference lines on material, according to drawings or templates.
Fabricate or alters parts at construction sites, using various tools
Maneuvers completed units into position for installation and anchor the units.
Transports prefabricated parts to construction sites for assembly and installation.
Drills and punches holes in metal for screws, bolts and rivets.
Trims, files, grinds, deburrs, buffs or smoothens surfaces, seams or joints of assembled parts, using hand tools or portable power tools.
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and overtime as required by project demands.
Should be willing to travel out of state on occasion as required by project demands.
Must pass fit for duty assessment, drug test, and background check
Required: Adhere to all safety policies and procedures. Desired:
Experience in fabricating maritime parts
working knowledge of all shop processes and machines. (e.g.; lapping, grinding, waterjet, CNC, plasma table, welding)
Bachelors degree relevant to industry
Certifications relevant to industry
Experience working with titanium.
Welding proficiency in gtaw, gmaw, and smaw.
Experience with designing/fabricating/making weldments which conform to industry tolerances
Working knowledge of hydraulics
Have an active DoW secret clearance
Previous experience of working with fiberglass, metals, such as steel, or aluminum. Experience in processes such as welding, drilling, tapping, cutting, grinding, punching, bending, notching and assembly, among others. Knowledge of production tools and equipment. Dockside, boating, or Marine experience. Experience maintaining small motors or hydraulic pumps. EXPERIENCE LEVEL: Minimum of 2 year of experience as a Machinist/Fabricator CERTIFICATIONS AND TOOLS: NCCER preferred but not required. SECURITY CLEARANCE: Must be US citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance or favorable adjudication of a national security background investigation. Current successful background investigation completion is a plus. TRAVEL: Occasional travel possible.
