Marine Technician/ Mechanic *Secret security clearance required*

Do you want to be part of U.S. Navy Research and Development offshore on research vessels and Navy watercraft?  TMG has an exciting opportunity for a full time Marine Technician / Mechanic to support the Navy in Fort Lauderdale, FL at NAVSEA’s South Florida Ocean Measurement Research, Development, Testing, & Evaluation facility. The Technician/Mechanic will support marine vehicles, small craft maintenance, diesel engine maintenance, equipment maintenance, underwater test equipment construction and maintenance and shore side asset maintenance. Preventative and environmental corrosion maintenance is primary duty. 

LOCATION: Fort Lauderdale (Dania Beach), FL
EXPERIENCE LEVEL: 1 year of similar work-related experience in a yacht company, Marina, or waterfront environment.  Machine shop industrial skills a plus.  USCG 6-pak captain’s license is a plus, or we can assist getting licensed with the required logged experience.
Must be fit and have ability to work in confined spaces on board vessels.
We are looking for self-motivated candidates who have the drive and motivation to complete multiple projects simultaneously.  Skilled hands, workmanship, and attention to detail is a must.

GENERAL DUTIES OR EXPERIENCE:
Engine & Mechanical Systems:
Perform routine maintenance on inboard and outboard engines (gasoline & diesel). Diagnose and repair engine failures, fuel system issues, and cooling system problems. Service propulsion systems, drive units, gearboxes, shaft seals, and propellers. Conduct engine tune-ups, oil changes, filter replacements, and belt adjustments.  Maintain and repair steering, throttle, and control systems. Operates fork flit, manlift, and machine shop tools. 

Electrical & Onboard Systems:
Troubleshoot and repair 12V/24V marine electrical systems, batteries, alternators, and charging systems. Install and test navigation/electronic equipment (gauges, sensors, alarms). Diagnose wiring faults, ground issues, and corrosion-related failures.

Fuel & Cooling Systems:
Clean and service fuel tanks, fuel lines, water separators, and injectors/carburetors. Maintain raw water and closed cooling systems, impellers, heat exchangers, and coolant levels

Safety & Compliance:
Conduct safety inspections per USCG and manufacturer guidelines. Ensure systems comply with environmental, fire, and emissions standards. Document maintenance and repairs performed for regulatory and warranty purposes.  Meets all OSHA safety requirements for industrial shipyard work environment.

Troubleshooting & Diagnostics:
Use diagnostic equipment and software for engine performance evaluation. Perform sea trials to verify repairs and system performance. Haul-out support. Maintain shop tools, equipment, and inventory of parts and supplies. Provide mobile service to marinas, docks, and customer locations.

Customer Service:
Explain mechanical issues and repair options clearly to vessel owners. Provide maintenance recommendations to improve reliability and prevent breakdowns.
